:Hi guys, :I know 500-600 mile sar eenough for the engine to be broken in. But some dyno shops told me to wait until I do 1500 miles. I completely agree. If you are going for a number primarily, I recommend breaking in the motor more thoroughly then a 'normal' breaking. 500 miles, change oil and filter. dino-oil. 700 miles, change oil and filter. dino-oil. 1500 miles, final oil and filter change. choice of dino or synthetic. keep Rpms between 0 and 6k through all of this. running above 6k doesn't do much for breaking in the rings.
:I do not mind replacing sparkplugs and putting gas several more times. The problem is that I am driving without air filters so I can take the car out only when it is nice outside. i'm still assuming you've got some monstrous engine build... i wouldn't even be concerned about plugs either. :At 100 miles, teh compression was between 130 and 140, and leak down was 7-8 %. My pistons are 8.5:1 CR. the compression should come up as the rings seat even more. leak down will also drop. :If everything checks out fine next week ( 700 miles, higher compression, same or better leakdown) shoudl I dyno it? Or take 2-3 more weeks? why are you dynoing? for a proper tune or for a number? if going for a number, go tonight. makes no difference really. if you are going for a good tune to establish more miles on the motor before your 'big number' quest, i recommend tuning low boost (A/F, leak check) and driving on that hard for 1k miles (after 1.5k break in). this will give you plenty of time to seat in everything (!) rings, seals, gaskets, fluids, timing, ecu, etc... :Any suggestions? no, not so much.
